How much do you know about the presidents with the shortest terms?
1. William H. Harrison -- 32 days
William Henry Harrison won the election against Martin Van Buren when he was 68 years old. He gave an inaugural address in the cold, which lasted 100 minutes, and caught a cold that turned into pneumonia and died 31 days later. Age at death: 68.
2. James Abram Garfield -- 200 days
120 days after taking office, he got shot by a crazy man who was mad because he hadn't won the election. And he died 80 days later. Age at death: 49.
3. Zachary Taylor -- 1 year, 4 months
Zachary Taylor went to a Fourth of July party and ate cherries and milk and died in his 16th month in office. He died of getting ill (natural causes). Age at death: 65.
4. Warren Gamalel Harding -- 2 years, 5 months
Harding had spent two years in office once he either got a heart attack or was poisoned by his wife and died in his 29th month in office (and he was also our 29th president). Age at death: 57.
5. Gerald Ford -- 2 years, 5 months (and more days than Harding)
Nixon was almost impeached, so he had to resign. Just like his vice president Spiro Agnew had to resign. But then Ford wanted to be vice president. Then Nixon resigned, and Ford became president. Age at death: 93.
6. Millard Fillmore -- 2 years, 7 months
You've heard how Taylor died. Well then Millard Fillmore became president. And one thing that a lot of people know about him is that he was president during the Compromise of 1850. Age at death: 74.
7. John Kennedy -- 2 years, 10 months
John F. Kennedy is one of our most famous presidents--about as famous as James Madison. But, as you all know, he was assassinated by Lee H. Oswald. And then Lyndon Baines Johnson became president. Age at death: 46.
8. Chester Alan Arthur -- 3 years, 5 months
As you all know, Garfield was assassinated at the age of 49; then Chester Arthur became president. He did not win a second term--or even run. Age at death: 57 (the same as Warren Harding)
9. Andrew Johnson -- 3 years, 10 months
He should be higher on this list!! Lincoln had just started a second term at the time he died, around four months later. Andrew Johnson, our 17th president, got the job. He was the worst president Sienna Poll 2018. Age at death: 66.
10. John Tyler -- 3 years, 11 months
William Henry Harrison died just 32 days in office, and John Tyler, the shortest-termed vice president, became president. So that means he was president just 32 days less than a full term. Whoa! Age at death: 71 (that's the presidential life expectancy).
11. John Adams -- 1 full term
John Adams would have been president a whole second term, but he did the Alien Sedition Act and Thomas Jefferson beat him in the election. The rest of the presidents who were just for one full term were president for one day longer. Age at death: 90.
